Begin with a voice team when possible

An ENT or laryngologist evaluates the larynx and medical causes. A speech-language therapist with voice expertise evaluates function and provides therapy. A psychologist or counsellor can support anxiety, self-consciousness or identity distress without assuming those issues caused the vocal pattern.

  1. Do you routinely assess functional voice disorders or puberphonia?
  2. Will I have, or be referred for, a laryngeal examination?
  3. How will you distinguish a falsetto pattern from a higher adult voice?
  4. What outcomes will we track besides pitch?
  5. How will practice transfer into my actual speaking situations?
  6. What should I do if an exercise causes pain or worsening fatigue?
  7. Can you coordinate with psychological support if distress is significant?
